Fort Nonsense Brewing Company
Fort Nonsense Brewing Company is a craft brewery in Randolph, NJ, specializing in classic ales, lagers, and “nonsensical beers.” Run by three brothers and backed by a loyal following, the brewery opened its doors in January 2018 in Denville. It has since moved to a more spacious location in Randolph as of October 2021.
Many aspects make Fort Nonsense Brewing Company special, but perhaps its nods to area history even more so. Its namesake played an important role in Morris County history; the hill known as Fort Nonsense was used by General George Washington and the Continental Army as an observation post and place of retreat for guards stationed in nearby Morristown.
Jersey Girl Brewing
Located in Mount Olive, NJ, Jersey Girl Brewing is situated in an impressive 10,000 square foot building including a tasting room comprising just under 10% of the total space (with a max occupancy of 75 people) and an outdoor beer garden. Jersey Girl Brewing produces 4,000-5,000 barrels of beer per year, distributes their products throughout New Jersey, and frequently hosts company and personal events.
Ramstein Beer
Finding an authentic German Oktoberfest at NJ breweries once proved to be a challenge—until now. Ramstein Beer, formerly known as High Point Brewing Company, is a Butler, NJ, craft brewery specializing in German wheat beer. Ramstein’s award winning beer is made with Bavarian yeast, follows the German Purity Law, and contains only four simple ingredients: malt, hops, water, and yeast.
While Oktoberfest-style beers are sure to be a hit, beer lovers won’t be disappointed by Ramstein’s selection of year-round, seasonal, and limited edition offerings.
Twin Elephant Brewing Company
Located in Chatham Borough, Twin Elephant Brewing Company may be one of the hippest breweries in NJ. This small batch brewery prides itself on offering handcrafted ales and lagers “brewed mindfully” with locally sourced ingredients. With its unique variety of beer styles, passionate staff, intimate setting, and outdoor seating, Twin Elephant is definitely worth visiting.
Glenbrook Brewery
One of the newest establishments on our list of NJ breweries, Glenbrook Brewery is sure to be a Morristown staple for years to come. This new local brewery opened in early 2021 and offers a revolutionary twist to the beer styles we know and love.
Similarly to Fort Nonsense, Glenbrook Brewery pays homage to Morris County’s roots, with a signature beer called Colonial Ale and historical notes on their website referencing General Washington’s headquarters at Jacob Arnold’s Tavern—located in an area residents now call “the Green.”
Chilton Mill Brewing
Our final featured brewery in NJ is Chilton Mill Brewing in Long Valley, NJ. Unlike its revolutionary counterparts, Chilton Mill Brewing is named for a five-storied, four-sailed black gristmill called the Chilton Street Mill located in Clare, Suffolk County, England. Once a valuable source of local commerce and now no longer in service, the gristmill still stands to this day amid picturesque grain fields—perhaps reminiscent of Long Valley!
This craft brewery is constantly brewing new, irresistibly delicious beers. It is a 3.5 bbl brewery and taproom currently offering full pours on their patio and 32 ounce crowler cans to-go.
