The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 3.0 percent from June 2023 to June 2024. The last time this figure was below 3.0 percent was in March 2021, when consumer prices increased 2.6 percent on a 12-month basis. Consumer prices for food rose 2.2 percent for the year ended June 2024, while energy prices increased 1.0 percent.
Consumer prices for all items less food and energy increased 3.3 percent from June 2023 to June 2024. Within all items less food and energy, commodities less food and energy commodities prices fell 1.8 percent, the largest 12-month decline since February 2004.
Apparel prices rose 0.8 percent from June 2023 to June 2024, while medical care commodities prices advanced 3.1 percent. Prices for services less energy services rose 5.1 percent, as prices increased in both shelter (5.2 percent) and medical care services (3.3 percent).
