Home to more than 200 arts and history organizations, 137 heritage sites, and a variety of shopping and entertainment destinations, Morris County is a great place to visit on your next vacation. Annually, Morris County can expect more than 1,500 visitors from 30 US states. Economically, the tourism industry has been a huge contributor of growth in the county. In 2016, tourism in Morris County accounted for $2,131,000,000 in spending and was responsible for the employment of 21,992 employees. Morris County is home to four important National Historic Landmarks. They include the Gustav Stickley homestead, the Morristown National Historical Park, the Thomas Nast home and the factory building at Historic Speedwell where the telgraph was demonstrated successfully for the first time. We are very proud of our local history and notable residents who have contributed to the growth and development of America, especially in the arts and communications.
The Morris County Park Commission manages the oldest and largest park system in a bucolic area of the State. The parks offer hiking, golf, swimming and ice skating throughout the county. The Frelinghuysen Arboretum, was voted the “2011 Best Public Garden” by NJ Monthly. Mennen Arena is host to special events and public ice skating. Each park has trail guides for hikers, and many parks contain historic sites of state and national significance including National Landmark Historic Speedwell, “Birthplace of the Telegraph”, Cooper Gristmill and Fosterfields Living Historical Farm.
Morris County has much to offer in the way of museums, historic houses, theatre and music venues. Explore New Jersey’s third largest museum, the Morris Museum, and take in a world-class play at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. There’s a lot on stage at MPAC throughout the year with 200 live performances. Art galleries, a make-your-own glass studio, and annual crafts fairs are just some of the events available to the visitor who appreciates the arts.
